Florida's Crack Down on Pill Mills Getting Results

Every day we are making progress in creating new jobs.
And now we are making progress in putting the pill mills out of business.

By Florida Gov. Rick Scott: You’ve heard me talk about the steady progress we’re making in reducing unemployment for the last five months straight. But today I want to tell you about another front where we’re making progress – cracking down on so-called “Pill Mills” and the sale of illegal prescription drugs.

Illegal prescription drug abuse destroys lives everyday and the problem was getting worse. That’s why in March, I created a statewide Strike Force made up of state and local law enforcement to crack down on these Pill Mills. And the Strike Force is producing results.

Over the weekend, the Sun-Sentinel reported on the Strike Force's progress.
In just 3 short months, the “Pill Mill” Strike Force has made over 550 arrests, seized nearly 40,000 pills, 20 vehicles and more than $600,000 dollars in cash. And armed with a new law I signed last month, the strike force will have even more resources and stiffer penalties to fight Pill Mills in the future.

Together the Strike Force and the new Pill Mill law are making great progress in combating a problem that has cost our state too many lives.
