Florida Continues to Create New Jobs: 85,500 in Current Yr; 4,300 In June, 2010

By Florida Gov. Rick Scott: This month's job numbers for Florida are in and I have great news to share with you about our economy. This year so far we've added 85,500 jobs and 4,300 of those were in the month of June alone. The news that Florida is continuing to create jobs while the national unemployment rate continues to rise is very encouraging. It means we are doing things the right way.

The latest unemployment figures were just released and for the fifth straight month unemployment has gone down in Florida. That’s right…unemployment is down for five straight months — bucking the national trend. Take a look at the chart below which demonstrates the decline in unemployment here in Florida versus the national unemployment.

While this is good news, Florida families are still struggling with unemployment and economic challenges. That is what drives me to focus every day on getting Floridians back to work.

Just this last week, I visited Canada, Florida’s number one economic partner, and made three jobs announcements of companies that will be expanding their operations to Florida. It was a great economic development trip, and I believe that we are on the on the right path.

By eliminating burdensome regulation and cutting red tape so we can continue to move quickly to close deals that create new jobs, I will do all I can to add to the positive momentum. And, I won’t rest until we get Florida back to work.
I won't rest until we do.
