RINO withdraws from NY-23 congressional race

from America, You Asked For It!

A few days ago we told you about RINO Dede Scozzafava's support from the Republican elite, and how several true conservatives in the party were jumping ship to support the Conservative Party's Doug Hoffman, in the New York special election for Congressional District 23. Now Tea Partiers around the nation have rallied against the GOP to support Hoffman in order to send the message to the national party--Return to conservative principles, or lose!

The TCOT Report has covered the race since Scozzafava's nomination and exposed the level of influence the national Republican Party wielded to secure here nomination. Though Newt Gingrich referred to the decision to nominate Dede as unanimous, TCOT Report exposed that two of eleven county officials still refuse to endorse Scozzafava! True conservatives around the nation have rallied against the GOP to support Hoffman in order to send a message to the national party--Return to conservative principles, or lose!

After the latest Siena Poll shows the race a dead heat between Democrat Bill Owens and Hoffman, with Scozzafava a distant third, the RINO has withdrawn from the race. Here's her statement, compliments of Politico:

Dear Friends and Supporters:

Throughout the course of my campaign for Congress, I have made the people of the 23rd District and the issues that affect them the focal point of my campaign. As a life long resident of this District, I care deeply and passionately about its people and our way of life. Whether as a candidate for Congress, a State Assemblywoman or a small town Mayor, I have always sought to act with the best interest of our District and its residents in mind—and today I again seek to act for the good of our community.

The opportunity to run as the Republican and Independence Party candidate to represent the 23rd District has been and remains one of the greatest honors of my life. During the past several months, as I’ve traveled the district, meeting and talking with voters about the issues that matter most to them, I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of support I’ve received as I sought to serve as their voice in Washington. However, as Winston Churchill once said, Democracy can be a fickle employer, and the road to public office is not always a smooth one.

In recent days, polls have indicated that my chances of winning this election are not as strong as we would like them to be. The reality that I’ve come to accept is that in today’s political arena, you must be able to back up your message with money—and as I’ve been outspent on both sides, I’ve been unable to effectively address many of the charges that have been made about my record. But as I’ve said from the start of this campaign, this election is not about me, it’s about the people of this District. And, as always, today I will do what I believe serves their interests best.

It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so. I am and have always been a proud Republican. It is my hope that with my actions today, my Party will emerge stronger and our District and our nation can take an important step towards restoring the enduring strength and economic prosperity that has defined us for generations.

On Election Day my name will appear on the ballot, but victory is unlikely. To those who support me – and to those who choose not to – I offer my sincerest thanks.

Dede

Question for Newt Gingrich, Pete Sessions, John Boehner, and all the other Republican elite who threw their support behind this Democrat who calls herself a Republican: Is it clear now that Americans don't want Republican politicians who act like Democrats, but Republicans with real conservative values for which they'll stand firm?

President Exploits US War Deaths for Photo-Op

from America, You Asked For It!

It's been more than two months since General McChrystal sent President Obama his request for more troops. More than two months since McChrystal told the President we will likely lose the war without additional manpower. In those two months, President Obama has failed to give US combat troops the support they are due. And today, to add insult to injury, he exploited those soldiers he has helped kill by posing for a photo op as their bodies were being offloaded at Dover Air Force Base.

Obama made use of his fawning admirers in the mainstream press to represent his reprehensible appearance as an effort to "honor the fallen." General McChrystal, his troops in Afghanistan, and veterans understand the greatest way the Commander-In-Chief could honor these men and women would be to stop playing politics with the war effort and give them the support that just might save their lives!

After all, this is the war he said we must win. This is the war even he and his liberal cohorts said they supported. But now the deaths of American service members seem of less import to this President than his inability to sway Fox News to follow the lead of their competitors in painting Obama as some sort of flawless Savior. He trots across the country and the globe with barely a whisper of their sacrifices.

Until he sees an opportunity to exploit their deaths for political gain, using their bodies as props to bolster his political image.

After two months of ignoring the struggles of our brave men and women in Afghanistan, after refusing to acknowledge or attempt to mediate the difficulties they face, our Dear Leader is using the bodies of those whose lives he sacrificed to bolster his political image.

This man has no shame!

Florida health officials craft H1N1 plans barring needy patients

The following story posted six days ago on Digital Journal takes on more importance now that President Barack Obama has declared a H1N1 swine flu pandemic national emergency in the United States.

Digital Journal: As the H1N1 swine flu pandemic stretches further into the North American ecology, Florida's health officials craft a plan that would bar certain patients from being admitted to hospitals across the state. . . . As the H1N1 swine flu pandemic stretches further into the North American ecology, Florida's health officials craft a plan that would bar certain patients from being admitted to hospitals across the state. The H1N1 swine flu pandemic continues to make headlines across the United States - and now the focus centers on planning and on infrastructure, after it was disclosed that more than 86 children have died from swine flu complications and that vaccines face manufacturing and distribution delays.

State health officials in Florida are now assembling their own contingency plans. Under recommendations drawn up by Florida Surgeon General Ana M. Viamonte Ros, many terminal and end-stage patients would be turned away from hospitals most affected by the swine flu pandemic - as scant resources would need to be redirected to the infected populations in need. The care rationing plan would also give doctors the authority to remove terminal patients from ventilator machines and redistribute those machines to patients who are struggling with the H1N1 swine flu virus. The decision to remove ventilators would be made by hospital administrators and would override patient family protests. . . . [Full Story]

Washington strips immigration policing powers from Arizona sheriff

from Blogs for Borders

We noticed a segment on Fox News this morning and googled "sheriff jo arpaio told to back off." Not surprisingly, the MSM seems to have failed to cover this story. But our friends across the pond picked it up in an October 9 article on guardian.co.uk.

by Daniel Nasaw at guardian.co.uk

A controversial Arizona sheriff known for taking a hard line against illegal immigrants has been stripped of some of his powers in what he described as a political move by the Obama administration.

Joe Arpaio, a gruff lawman who styles himself as America's toughest sheriff, has won acclaim from US anti-immigrant forces for his relentless pursuit of mostly Hispanic illegal immigrants in Maricopa county, Arizona, a fast-growing county of 4 million people that is home to Phoenix, the nation's fifth largest city.

Arpaio's aggressive tactics include the jailing of illegal immigrants in tent cities surrounded by barbed wire in the middle of Arizona's searingly hot summers, the reduction of meal costs to 20 cents per day, the use of pink jail clothing for men, and chain gangs for women inmates.

Arpaio also came in for criticism when he appeared on the Fox reality show Smile: You're Under Arrest.

Under a two-year-old agreement with the federal department of homeland security, Arpaio and his deputies had been authorised to enforce federal immigration law by arresting suspected illegal immigrants in the field and by checking the immigration status of people arrested on other offences. The department of homeland security includes the US immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agency.

But after drawing thousands of complaints and a civil rights investigation from the justice department, Arpaio was this week stripped of his federal authority to make immigration arrests. County attorney Andrew Thomas, one of Arpaio's supporters, condemned the "setback in the fight against illegal immigration".

For his part Arpaio has promised to continue chasing illegal immigrants using state laws. In an angry press conference, he called US homeland security officials "liars" and said he would personally drive those caught on the streets to the border if federal officers refused to take arrested illegal immigrants into custody. "I'll take a little trip to the border and turn them over to the border," he said.

Arpaio's critics decried his continued plans to arrest illegal immigrants and said the Obama administration should sever all ties with him.

The now-rescinded authority to conduct field sweeps of illegal immigrants yielded only about 300 out of the roughly 33,000 total arrests of illegal immigrants since 2007, the Obama administration has done little to curtail Arpaio, said Frank Sharry, executive director of immigration reform advocacy group America's Voice.

"He's going to go down in history as a man who terrorised the Latino community for the sake of his own visibility and political popularity," Sharry said. "The fact that the Obama administration would lend any of its legitimacy to any of his activities is surprising and disappointing."

Arpaio was first elected sheriff in 1993.

"The department of homeland security is making a historic mistake if it continues its relationship with Sheriff Joe Arpaio," said Paco Fabian, spokesman for immigration reform advocacy group America's Voice. "The federal government is lending its full force and legitimacy to a rogue cop certain to go down in history as a serial violator of civil rights and an enemy of the Latino community."

An estimated 12 million illegal immigrants live in the US. The federal government is virtually paralysed over how to react, with conservatives like Arpaio calling for the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants and increased border enforcement. Obama, many Democrats and some Republicans call for a system that will allow most to gain legal status after paying a fine and learning English, but reform efforts in 2006 and 2007 withered under sustained rightwing opposition.

More than 60 law enforcement agencies across the country have signed onto the same programme under which local officers are effectively deputised to enforce immigration law. But critics of the programme say it wastes police resources needed to fight street crime, promotes racial profiling of Hispanics, targets peaceful workers, breaks up families and breeds distrust of police among immigrants, who become afraid to report crime for fear they will be asked for immigration papers.

• This article was amended on 19 October 2009. The original headline read: White House strips immigration policing powers from Arizona sheriff.

In his interview on Fox, Arpaio said he wasn't backing down and the Federal government couldn't stop him from enforcing the Arizona laws he was elected to uphold.

Obama Poised to Cede US Sovereignty

This is the first, we have heard of this proposed United Nations Climate Change Treaty establishing a new "world government," but it needs to be immediately investigated. All inputs and sources welcome. Here is the story and video!
-----------------
On October 14, Lord Christopher Monckton, a noted climate change expert, gave a presentation at Bethel College in St. Paul, MN in which he issued a dire warning regarding the United Nations Climate Change Treaty which is scheduled to be signed in Copenhagen in December 2009. [Video]

Lord Monckton served as a policy adviser to Margaret Thatcher. He has repeatedly challenged Al Gore to a debate to which Gore has refused. Monckton sued to stop Gore's film "An Inconvenient Truth" from being shown in British schools due to its inaccuracies. The judge found in-favor of Monckton, ordering 9 serious errors in the film to be corrected. Lord Monckton travels internationally in an attempt to educating the public about the myth of global warming.

Obama's Anita Dunn - Mao Tse Tung (70 million murdered) - the Connection?

Anita Dunn, President Obama's Communications Director, in June (3 months ago) at commencement speech, said that one of her favorite political philosopher was Mao Tse Tung. The very same Communist - Mao Tse Tung - who is the worst mass murdering modern history. Moa had 70 million people murdered. She praises someone and accepted them as one of her two favorite philosophers - a person who killed more people than Hitler. And she is the communications director for the President, and has been a vocal voice in in attacking conservatives and even the Fox News Channel. Deception revealed!

MIAC Report -Now Appears to be Fraudulent

NetRight Nation Gadsden FlagBill Smith, ARRA New Service We previously reported on the scandal that surrounded the MIAC report which has now apparently moved on to become a basis of support within Homeland Security Policy with respect to potential domestic terrorists. In the MIAC report, "People of "conservative" ideology were also identified in the State Police report as being potentially dangerous. People who held political opinions opposing abortion, illegal immigration, the New World Order, the North American Union, the Income Tax, the U.N., etc., were profiled in the MIAC report.. No Islamic extremists. No environmental extremists. Only people holding "conservative" or "right-wing" philosophies were identified in the MIAC report."

Adam Bitely at NetRight Nation just released the results of an Freedom of Information (FOI) related to the MIAC Report which are detailed below. Adams does it right by providing links to all the documentation received. However, the same cannot be verified for the MIAC or the Missouri Highway Patrol. The shocking FOI results show that that some unknown person or persons prepared the MIAC Report and no supporting documentation exists.

While most of the conservatives identified in the MIAC report have a high regard for both the the military and police officer, this MIAC report has reduced the public's respect for the process and the Missouri Highway Department for allowing this report to be released which cast aspersion on so many loyal American citizens concerned about our county and Constitution rights of all Americans.

No supporting documentation and the in ability to identify the author means that either a great hoax has been perpetrated on MIAC and the American people or that information is being withheld to protect someone from being held accountable for authoring a fallacious MIAC report. Either situation is untenable and reduces public trust in law enforcement. In addition, the continued use and support for the MIAC report's content by the Department of Homeland Security evidences a willingness to promote fictitious propaganda and an effort to possibly influence law enforcement across the nation.

While Adam Bitely in his comment below is generous by stating that "MIAC operation is nothing but an amateur operation," the fact is we cannot trust MIAC or any of its future reports when MIAC and the Missouri Highway Patrol allow amateur operations that went so far to originally castigate even supporters of candidates for President of the United States and law abiding Americans who are outspoken in their opinions.
Adam Bitely, NetRight Nation: Remember the MIAC Report from last February? This was the report issued by the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) to law enforcement officials across the state warning them to watch out for supporters of limited government. The report, titled "The Modern Militia Movement", caused quite a stir in the media and the blogosphere.

Bill Wilson, President of Americans for Limited Government, filed a FOIA request to obtain the information that went into creating the report. The results of that FOIA were not surprising. The information did not exist.

According to Steven Frisbie, the Custodian of Records at the Missouri Highway Patrol, no background materials that were used while the author drafted the report existed. And even more interesting was the claim that they have no record of who wrote the report.

Bizarre. The group tasked with collecting intelligence in Missouri cannot even keep track of its own office. It would appear that the MIAC operation is nothing but an amateur operation complete with mustache/glasses disguise kits. They have no idea what is going on inside of their own office.

Congress ACORN Rolls the Public

Bill Smith, Editor: On Sept 14, we reported that the Senate Cuts Funding to ACORN after ever one learned of ACORN Promoting Prostitution & Tax Evasion. I commented at the time, "With people like Reid (D-NV), Boxer (D-CA), McCaskill (D-MO), and Kerry (D-MA) voting in favor of the amendment, a caution flag is still appropriate. This amendment could be removed in reconciliation with the House."

But then four days later on on Sept 18, we learned that the Senate approved 85-11 an amendment to the Interior appropriations bill to prohibit funding in that bill from going to ACORN. And, the House of Representatives voted 345-75 to pass the Defund ACORN Act.

At that time, we anticipated thought that the defunding of ACORN and the ACORN scandals would occupy the news for the weekend, but recall that other news took center stage when President Obama played into the hand of the Russians and announced that he was pulling the security rug out from under Poland and the European community. Well with all the ACORN lovers in Congress and the White House. we should have known this subject wasn't over.

Now we learn that last Thursday, Rep. Michelle Bachmann talked with radio host Chris Baker to discuss an ongoing investigation into ACORN. During the show, we now learn the truth about ACORN. They only lost funds for One (1) month:
She then further said that Congress hasn't cut off ACORN funding like you think. She says, "Congress did a CYA move, they defunded ACORN just for the month of October." (Read the Legislative Digest). She adds that on November 1, "the spigot of federal tax money will open wide open again."

To add insult to injury, she informed us that while ACORN didn't get federal funding in October, "They received a million dollar grant from Homeland Security for fire safety. "Full Story. What does ACORN have to do with fire safety? In fact, "they received 80% of the money for fire safety that was supposed to go to Louisiana."

H/T to TexasFred for sharing the above video and KTLK story. Fred adds, "Social Security is going BROKE! Yet groups like ACORN are right back on the public dole! And ACORN, despite all their words, does nothing to help anyone other than ACORN. Oh yeah, and let’s not forget, they give great advice on how to tax shelter your whores and dope operations. That’s some valuable advice if you’re a pimp or a dope dealer!"

Well, now we know what was up with the Democrats when they voted - deception ACORN style. They were smoothing the public's feathers while they prepared to continue to pluck us clean. When the clock runs out on Halloween, the ACORN nightmare continues but once again it is funded with our Federal tax dollars!

Napolitano: Don't jail illegals, let's "house" them

Blogs for Borders

All over the net today are articles about Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano referring to illegal aliens as "newly arrived asylum seekers." As disturbing as this is, it's right in line with everything the Obama administration has done to this point. From referring to the War on Terror as an "Overseas Contingency Operation" and the renaming of a government health insurance option as a "cooperative", the administration has consistently manipulated the English language to achieve the President's goals when the American people disagree with him.

But perhaps even more disturbing than re-labeling those who break our laws to enter the country illegally with this benign moniker is the main point of the Reuters article that quoted Napolitano's new tag for those soon-to-be-formerly known as illegal aliens.

The Secretary was announcing a new plan to "house" illegal aliens instead of imprisoning them! "House" them!

From the article:

"This is a system that encompasses many different types of detainees, not all of whom need to be held in prison-like circumstances," Napolitano told a conference call.

Referring to noncriminals such as newly arrived asylum seekers, Napolitano said, "We will begin efforts to house these populations near immigration service providers and pursue different options like converted hotels or residential facilities for their detention."

Now won't that be nice! (And it will do so much to discourage the illegal entry into our country! NOT)

Just think, the poor from other countries will be able to abandon their shacks, huts, and hovels in their native lands, sneak across our borders, get themselves caught, and then enjoy the comforts of an American motel room, or perhaps a nice little 3-bedroom home. When word of this reaches the deserts, jungles, cities, and wilds of third world nations across the globe, illegal immigration into this country will explode!

And who will foot the bill for the spiffy quarters of all these "newly arrived asylum seekers"? The same people called on to fund every other Obama policy...the American taxpayer!

As if that's not bad enough, let's look at some possible motivations for this imbecilic move on the part of our Nobel laureate President.

  • The One who considers government spending the cure for all our economic ills may see this as a means to end the housing crisis. The increased demand for residential space will certainly drive prices up.

But of course the President won't consider (or won't inform the public of) the tax increases necessary to pay for the program.

  • The Chosen One may also see an opportunity to grow his party's base using this devious tactic. Especially with the easing of identification requirements for voter registration of late, we could see illegals registering to vote in record numbers. And of course they'll be so grateful to the party of Obama-Napolitano, there's little doubt where their political allegiance will lie.

  • And our Dear Leader could also see an opportunity to tip the scales in conservative-leaning regions by concentrating large numbers of "newly arrived asylum seekers" in those areas. The opportunity to strengthen the Democrats' grip on what have been toss-up Congressional districts might be enough motivation to insert "illegal aliens" into the heart of American residential communities.

Nothing this President does surprises me anymore, but this is extremely troublesome. If you enter this country illegally, you've broken a law. That should not warrant free housing at the expense of the American taxpayer unless that housing is a jail!

This new policy will encourage illegal immigration instead of discourage it and those of us who pay taxes will be forced to pay even more!

Call, write, and email your congressmen and senators today and tell them to put a stop to this insanity!

Commander-in Chief AWOL - Obama "Fiddles Around" While American Troops Lose Heart

by Dr. Bill Smith: Before proceeding it is only right to say that as a 22 year veteran, I am by nature a "hawk" and support all efforts to stop the enemies of America. However, I already saw one war - the Vietnam War - mired down by bureaucracy and lack of direction. [For those who prefer using the term "Vietnam Conflict," tell it to the American families, friends of the veterans who served and lost 58,159 comrades in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia plus all those who died from war related issues after that "conflict."]

Most career military have served under Presidents with whom we did not politically agree. Some Presidents were more competent than others. Most Presidents and Defense Secretaries who had not served in the military have made decision or failed to make decisions that resulted in the wasting of military resources and lives. Although not always understood by the general population, military leaders clearly understand that the military is both a tool in defending America including America's economic interests and a tool of diplomacy. However, when a president lacks declared interest or focus during a time of war - or major deployments with people at risk, military casualties increase and troop morale suffers and leads to more losses.

The Times Online is reporting a story about "American troops in Afghanistan losing heart." It is like "deja view" - a scene from the past when leadership and adequate direction was not shown by prior Commander-in-Chiefs and Secretaries of Defense. A few excerpts from the article:
American soldiers serving in Afghanistan are depressed and deeply disillusioned, according to the chaplains of two US battalions that have spent nine months on the front line in the war against the Taleban [sic, Taliban]. Many feel that they are risking their lives — and that colleagues have died — for a futile mission and an Afghan population that does nothing to help them, . . . “They feel they are risking their lives for progress that’s hard to discern,” . . . “They are tired, strained, confused and just want to get through.” The soldiers are, by nature and training, upbeat, driven by a strong sense of duty, and they do their jobs as best they can . . . admitted that their morale had slumped.

“We’re lost — that’s how I feel. I’m not exactly sure why we’re here,” . . . “I need a clear-cut purpose if I’m going to get hurt out here or if I’m going to die.” . . . Asked if the mission was worthwhile, . . . “If I knew exactly what the mission was, probably so, but I don’t.” The only soldiers who thought it was going well “work in an office, not on the ground”. In his opinion “the whole country is going to s***”.

The battalion’s 1,500 soldiers are nine months in to a year-long deployment that has proved extraordinarily tough. Their goal was to secure the mountainous Wardak province and then to win the people’s allegiance through development and good governance. They have, instead, found themselves locked in an increasingly vicious battle with the Taleban [sic, Taliban].

They have been targeted by at least 300 roadside bombs, about 180 of which have exploded. Nineteen men have been killed in action, with another committing suicide. About a hundred have been flown home with amputations, severe burns and other injuries likely to cause permanent disability, and many of those have not been replaced. More than two dozen mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles (MRAPs) have been knocked out of action.

Living conditions are good — abundant food, air-conditioned tents, hot water, free internet - but most of the men are on their second, third or fourth tours of Afghanistan and Iraq, with barely a year between each. . . . The men are frustrated by the lack of obvious purpose or progress. “The soldiers’ biggest question is: what can we do to make this war stop. Catch one person? Assault one objective? Soldiers want definite answers, other than to stop the Taleban [sic, Taliban], because that almost seems impossible. It’s hard to catch someone you can’t see,” . . .

“It’s a very frustrating mission,” . . . “The average soldier sees a friend blown up and his instinct is to retaliate or believe it’s for something [worthwhile], but it’s not like other wars where your buddy died but they took the hill. There’s no tangible reward for the sacrifice. It’s hard to say Wardak is better than when we got here.” "We want to believe in a cause but we don’t know what that cause is.” . . . The soldiers complain that rules of engagement designed to minimize civilian casualties mean that they fight with one arm tied behind their backs. . . “You get shot at but can do nothing about it. You have to see the person with the weapon. It’s not enough to know which house the shooting’s coming from.” . . .

The constant deployments are, meanwhile, playing havoc with the soldiers’ private lives. “They’re killing families,”. . . “Divorces are skyrocketing. PTSD is off the scale. There have been hundreds of injuries that send soldiers home and affect families for the rest of their lives.” The chaplains said that many soldiers had lost their desire to help Afghanistan. “All they want to do is make it home alive and go back to their wives and children and visit the families who have lost husbands and fathers over here. It comes down to just surviving,” . . . “If we make it back with ten toes and ten fingers the mission is successful,” . . . “You carry on for the guys to your left or right,” . . .

Lieutenant-Colonel Kimo Gallahue, 2-87’s commanding officer, denied that his men were and insisted they had achieved a great deal over the past nine months. A triathlete and former rugby player, he admitted pushing his men hard, but argued that taking the fight to the enemy was the best form of defense. . . . Above all, Colonel Gallahue argued that counter-insurgency — winning the allegiance of the indigenous population through security, development and good governance — was a long and laborious process that could not be completed in a year. “These 12 months have been, for me, laying the groundwork for future success,” he said. . . .
These reported comments depict more than just complaints by G.I.s. They are a clear signs of bigger issues both at the DOD, in the force structure and support of today's military, and with the direction of the war as defined by the President of the United States. As for the field commander on the record comments about his belief in the mission, this was expected but it is not a measurement of success. However, while failing morale and expressions like "you carry on for the guys to your left or right" are both true and admirable, they are also a definite indicator of failed purpose and direction.

As heads up, the following comments are directed to what appears to be an often AWOL (absent without leave) Commander-in-Chief: Mr. Obama, you choose to run for President of the United States. And, the American people elected you to be president. Most Americans know that a "chief" responsibility of the president is being Commander-in-chief of the military. It is not being the commander of the American people. While you have "fiddle around" tripping off to other countries expressing your regrets about the United States or to another location to promote or sign a bill that could have been done efficiently right in the Oval office; while you wasted time trying to recruit the Olympics or taking time for another sports event or White House party; while you expend a disproportionate amount of your time on agendas which have or will send the United States further into debt and on efforts to reshape the social fabric of America, you are not focused on your primary responsibility of being Commander-in-Chief.

American military are dying or at risk because of your lack of leadership. Members of the military understand sacrifice and giving their lives for a greater cause. However, they do not understand dying without purpose or a clear objective. Often they die for their comrades but they do not wish to die for absentee leadership or an undefined mission.

Mr. President, above all else, (except possibly for those who feel they must engender themselves to you for their jobs and their agendas or who happen to hate America) people on both sides of domestic issues expect you to complete your primary duties as president. The United States of America has men and women in harms-way risking America's chief treasure - American blood. For "Pete's sake" - Wake-up! You are the Commander-in-Chief! It cannot be delegated; nor should it continue to be ignored! It is a lonely sacred responsibility. Mr. President, no matter how important you believe your other agendas to be, you must focus on your primary responsibility as Commander-in-Chief!

Bob Graham Stomping All Over Florida House District 91?

by Yomin Postelnik, Republican Candidate for Florida House District 91:

. . . Political hacks should satisfy their ambitions by raising money for career politicians and taking whatever cut they want of it. When they decide that they themselves can become legislators, that’s when they become dangerous. It’s because of career politicians that there are so few new ideas in politics.. . .

The people of District 91 will not stand for it. We deserve better and we will demand nothing less.

Democrats have long promised that District 91 would be “the largest battle in South Florida.” If by that they meant that this election would finally expose the Jimmy Carter-like incompetence of the otherwise likable Senator and former Governor Bob Graham, then I’ll have no choice but to oblige. It certainly is interesting that Bob Graham’s biggest failure, the Mariel Boatlift, is one that Jimmy Carter is still trying to live down to this day.  . . .

Dem Health Plans Fail To Deal Effectively with Cost

Health care reform is yet to substantively deal with 'gorilla in the room' - Cost. This is one of the fundamental reason why health care reform is needed. Yet no plan truly deals with this problem adequately. With the federal deficit shooting upwards and the country in the middle of a recession this only makes the need to deal with cost that much more pointed, but it does not seem to be a legislative priority.

Mort Kondracke of Roll Call explains in his article Will Reform Cut Health Care Costs? Don't Bet on It that the health care reform plans have no enforceable cost reducing measures. Cost cutting measures that are attempted rely on insurance companies, drug companies, and other health groups to keep their word and cut costs. This is at best a gamble, and not a very good one at that.
There's reason to fear that, even with reform, the nation's total outlays for health care - currently 17 percent of gross domestic product - will continue to soar, and so will federal health spending and insurance premiums.

The Obama White House promised reform would "bend the curve" of health spending - now growing 3 percent a year faster than the economy - but bills pending in Congress contain no guaranteed cost-containment measures such as a global budget, or national lid, on health spending.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, total U.S. health spending is scheduled to rise to 20 percent of the GDP by 2018, 25 percent by 2025 and 38 percent by 2050.

In May, health care stakeholder groups, including hospitals, insurance companies, doctors, drug companies and device makers, promised President Barack Obama they'd institute measures shaving 1.5 percent per year from the current 7 percent growth rate of health spending, saving $2 trillion over 10 years.

But as the journal Health Affairs observed in an issue brief in August, "these agreements are not enforceable" and, indeed, House "reform" legislation would free doctors from any reductions in Medicare reimbursements.

It's no wonder the American Medical Association supports the House bill, H.R. 3200. The Senate Finance Committee bill gives doctors just a one-year break from scheduled fee reductions, but past patterns are that Congress annually saves doctors from any cut.

Another group promising cuts - and now supporting Obamacare - is the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

Its contribution to controlling health care costs? Just $80 billion over 10 years - out of total U.S. pharmaceutical outlays of $3.3 trillion.

And, as Fortune magazine pointed out, part of PhRMA's cuts are designed to get more Medicare recipients to use brand-name drugs when generics actually would be cheaper.

According to Health Affairs Editor-in-Chief Susan Dentzer, "bending the curve" of health cost growth depends upon "a lot of floating magic asterisks" in the Senate legislation, including the transformation of several pilot projects into actual policies that alter health spending patterns.
